The Way We're Working Isn't Working: The Four Forgotten Needs That Energize Great Performance

Life changing!
I bought this book after reading "The Accidental Creative," which mentions it. Together, they're a dynamic duo! This book really brought home the importance of pacing yourself. Like many people, I tend to think that -- if I have an extra hour or two -- it's okay to fill every moment with work. Whether or not it's actually a productive use of that time... that gets lost in the illusion of "busy is better."Also, Tony Schwartz emphasized the importance of what you do when you're not working. This book recommends balance in your life. That's easy enough to say. Plenty of books do. What make this book different (and better) are the many clear and detailed of routines that work (and don't work) for other busy people.I'm still struggling to apply all of Schwartz's suggestions. I'm adding one new one every couple of weeks. However, if you're "tired and wired," and need to find a better answer to work- and time-management routines, this is essential reading.

This is an amazing book on work-life balance
I have been a big fan of The Power of Full Engagement for many years (this is the book Tony Schwartz co-authored with Jim Loehr). I have now become an even bigger fan of The Way We're Working Isn't Working. First of all, it's extremely well-organized, with succinct sections on key areas of work-life balance (e.g. sleep, food intake, exercise). Next, Schwartz is an excellent writer who delightfully avoids over-writing. He also provides a lot of useful research to back up his claims about how we get in our own way and prevent ourselves from living a more balanced life, in a way that keeps you reading. This book is full of "A-ha" moments that will make you reflect on why you are so stressed out and what you need to do about it. A must-read!

The way we're working isn't working
It is easy to read a book and then put it down with no change to your life or the way you do things. Many people are familiar with Steven Covey's work. They have probably read "the 7 habits..." or been cited parts of his work at some training congress. It is refreshing to have a book that revisits similar themes, with a new set of eyes. It's not a book with just someone discussing their experiences. The authors cite some interesting research that actually helps quantify what people need to do to be more engaged, and also, importantly, what organisations need to do to engage their people.

improve your life
Tony's book is fantastic. He serves up meaninful insights into how to "fix" ourselves. So many of us make it through the workday and are exhausted at day's end.We have little understanding into how we can manage our energy. He breaks our energy fuel tank down into its basic building blocks, then teaches how to manage each one of them. The book provides valuable take away information that is immediately useful for improving our daily experience.Tony has a wealth of knowledge based on working with a variety of blue chip companies and with so many people. If you want to have better energy at work and at home...if you want to feel more in control of how you can influence your own energy and improve the quality of it...then Tony's book is a must read.Make sure you read it with a highlighter pen in your hand because it is a great source of material to reference.

Helping everyone- Including yourself
This extraordinarily powerful book immediately gets to the heart of our most persistent, pernicious contemporary problem busyness. Based upon extensive rigorous research and much practical experience the authors show how each of us can build a strong foundation of meaning, contribution and belonging even in the most fast-paced, pressure filled organizational settings. The book is eminently practical full of clear examples and action steps and practices that one can take on immediately. It's the rare combination of an important book filled with hard edged realism but coming from a place of deep respect and kindness for all of us. I've told dozens of people about this book and will continue to do so. Essential for anyone living today' James Flaherty, founder New Ventures West, Integral Coaching author, COACHING, evoking excellence in others

Excellent book in good condition
This book came as advertised, it was clearly used, but in good condition. The content is excellent as well, as expected.

Disappointing
I expected much more from this book. Its main points could have been developed in just a few pages. Most part of the book is a boring repetition of obvious concepts. Very long and boring book.

Desafiante
