Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this self-titled album from the legendary Funk band. Platypus was among many Funk-based acts to emerge from Dayton, Ohio in the 1970s, along with the Ohio Players, Heatwave, Slave, and Lakeside. Their style was specifically influenced by progressive rock, earning compliments from Rick Wakeman of Yes. The group's fans in Japan defined their sound as "between rock and soul." Upon moving to Los Angeles in the mid-'70s, members of Platypus worked with Motown producer Hal Davis and contributed to sessions for Thelma Houston, the 5th Dimension, and Diana Ross. Platypus was mentored by Roberta Flack after she saw the group headline at the Bottom Line in Osaka, Japan.

Under Rated Gem
PLATYPUS’s self titled debut album was released in late 1979 on Casablanca at the end of the Disco craze. It’s unfortunate that the infamous Disco crash and the Disco demolition rally hurt so many R&B acts. Platypus was one such act who was a victim of the Disco backlash. Very unfair since the band’s solid debut has so much more to offer then just Dance music. “Dancing in the Moonlight”, a killer Disco groove, would have been an across the board smash had it been released just a few months earlier. “Dance if You Can” and “Body and Soul” are both perfect for the dance floor as well. But PLATYPUS was a self contained band who had a lot more to offer then Disco. The guys could funk. Just listen to “Street Babies” and “Love The Way You Funk”. These tracks are raw, fun and hard hitting funk. “Running From Love” is mid-tempo R&B funk that would make GQ proud and “Don’t Go Away” is a heartbreaking R&B ballad that should have become a Quiet Storm classic. The album did not produce any Pop, R&B or Disco Hits and unfortunately PLATYPUS never released another album.Big Thanks to Big Break Records for re-mastering this long out of print gem, which was a much sought after item for crate diggers and collectors. As is always the case with a BBR re-master, the sound is great, the liner notes are fascinating and informative and there are Bonus tracks galore here. 6 of them to be exact and they are a treat. “Dancing in the Moonlight”, “Street Babies” and “Love The Way You Funk” are presented here in their rare 12” Versions. “Dancing in the Moonlight”, “Dance If You Can” and “Love The Way You Funk” are also available in their Single Mixes, in addition to their original full length album versions. The album’s colorful original album cover art front and back is preserved as well. A treasure for any Disco/R&B lover and collector.

FUNKY/ROCK DISCO FINE ANNI 70!!!!
