Math Experiment - 300 Word Problems for Second Grade Contests

This book provides enough substance and content for parents to help their children build a solid foundation in maths. The book has enough practice questions for each topic and handles the topic really well. Thanks a ton to the author for doing a wonderful job.While reading the book, I was all set to give a five star rating until I stumbled upon several questions in level 1 that had incorrect answers/ solution such as ML1-004,ML1-005,ML1-007,etc. I checked the question and solution twice. I was disappointed that the solution had printing mistake in some cases and in other cases the solution was wrong.Otherwise, this book is a great buy. Hope the errors are taken care of.

We were surprised with the errors in this book also, especially in the level 1 section! Hope they will fix this problem in the next edition! Level 2 and 3 seems to be correct so far. Not a bad review book minus the errors.

This is a great book if you want to take your second grader to Math contests. There are not a lot of contests out there for this age, and the author reviews what he thinks are the most important 3 of them:Continental Math LeagueNoetic Math ContestMath KangarooThe book is actually the result of the Math Club that the author organized with his son and three other second graders. It is written like a log of everything he taught the kids - Math problems, stories, contests, and even the letters he sent to the parents after each session.The book is divided in 8 weekly sessions. Every session has 30 problems organized in 3 difficulty levels, a 3-problem test (called the Three Little Birds), a challenge problem (called the Angry Bird), a story about a Math personality or concept, and a letter to the parents. Each of the sessions deals with a particular curriculum track.The book has also a section that has only problems written to further practice the skills acquired during the 8 weekly sessions, and a chapter on the achievements of the team during the school year - awards and medals. All the problems come with full solution and explained strategies, which is great.On the downside, a weekly session presented in the book has a lot of stuff - much more that one can cover in 1 hour session. And even the author admitted that somewhere in the book. He actually compressed around 20 meetings with the kids in 8 chapters in the book.Overall, it is a very good book for someone who aspires to get a lot of medals in Math contests.
