Finally! Easily and quickly opens clamshell and other packaging!
Zibra ZPCOPEN-OR Open It Universal Package Opener After half a century of living, I'm not easily impressed, but I know I will be using this super-handy opener constantly. I received mine yesterday, tried it out on a hard clamshell package of inkjet cartridges, and I am delighted! It was effortless to use on that tough package and I couldn't wait to write a review and let everyone know it works great! I couldn't be more pleased with this universal package opener! I'm going to purchase another to keep in the car to open cd cases and other packages, another for my desk drawer, and several more to give as gifts. With Christmas coming soon, now is a great time to buy this item, especially for anyone with arthritis or fibromyalgia. (I can't imagine being a parent trying to open numerous clamshell packages, one after another!)If you've ever tried to get a toy out of a package in a hurry while the child waits (think Barbie), or been in a hurry to get an ink cartridge out of a clamshell while the boss or a customer paces while waiting for a printout, or tried to open child proof blister packs of medicine with arthritic hands, then you know why this tool will be handy! It is very well-designed, ergonomic, and effortless to use. It is especially wonderful for anyone with arthritis, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, tennis elbow or carpal tunnel. The package indicates it will cut, snip, slice and unscrew just about any package. Cut it: Hard plastic clamshells, blisters, cardboard, paper; Snip it: Tooy packaging, twist ties, zip ties, straps; Slice it: Boxes, cds, dvds, plastic wraps; Unscrew it: Open battery compartments and more using the interchangeable philips and flat screwdrivers. It has several safety features including a latch to keep it closed when not in use, and the utility blade feature will automatically retract if you stop pressing and holding the button to keep the blade extended. The package warns to keep it out of the reach of children. (Better yet, don't let them see you use it since kids learn by watching and imitating behaviors.)I just can't say enough good things about this universal package opener; I give it my highest recommendation without reservation. This is a heavy duty tool designed by women that should serve me well for years to come.

SUPERCUTTER
Ordered this cutter... but had second thoughts after reading some of the negatives about it; so I ordered the FISCARS too. (Yeah - a person can always use an extra.)After trying both the ZPCOPEN and FISCARS I found the Fiscars are OK but you have to "dig" a bit to get around some of the bubble-pacs. Sometimes the knuckles get against the sharp cut plastic due to the blade design (more like regular shears). Both are comfortable to use. The screwdriver is emergency use only on either one, and you may need pliers to swap ends from phillips to straight slot the first time.HOWEVER, the ZPCOPEN is a delight to work with. Most bubble-pacs have a double thickness flange around the edge where they are joined. The ZPCOPEN has an OFFSET BLADE, and you can easily cut off the flange and open the pac. Like trimming the edge off a piecrust. Your knuckles don't get into the sharp edges. The extendable blade is a rather awkward thing but if careful it will work. As with all sharp objects parents should CLOSELY supervise children's use.FURTHERMORE, the ZPCOPEN cuts even thin plastic (like grocery bags), and bubble wrap cleanly while the FISCARS won't (it skids between the blades).Either one is safer than the butcher knife method, but if your going to get only one, get the ZPCOPEN...IMHO.12-12-12 Update !!!!Had the ZPCOPEN now for several months and it continues to perform superbly. It is still very sharp, but the offset blade feature is its forte. There are so many times this cutter is the answer to a situation you've encountered before but didn't have the ZPCOPEN. You just can't imagine why the offset cutter was not invented before. It is such a knuckle saver. This is my go-to package and mail opener and scissors. Will order another for the shop too. The fiscars is in a drawer somewhere.

Still works well after two years
I bought this item about two and a half years ago, and I still rely on it regularly. Before I made the purchase, I read the various reviews and realized that the mostly-plastic device might not be as durable as some of my other household tools, but it seemed convenient enough to be worth taking a chance. I think it was worth the price. Most useful features (for me):The snippers are adequate for opening the packaging on the products I buy. I am especially pleased at how well they penetrate the combination cardboard-and-plastic blister cards that protect so many retail items these days. And I am writing this review today because I replaced a plastic membership card, and used the Open It! to cut up the old one. Also valuable to me: the size and bright color of the Open It! make it easy to find among the clutter of my living room. Perhaps other people live their lives in a more orderly environment, but in my house I appreciate tools which are easy to locate.Least useful features (for me):I applaud the safety feature of the spring-retractable utility knife, however I rarely use it because it cannot be locked-open. Instead I usually reach for an ordinary utility knife. The little screwdriver is cleverly-designed, but unwieldy (being mounted on the end of the device, rather than removable for use)...it has always been more convenient to hunt up a proper screwdriver.I always bring the Open It! along when I attend birthday parties and other holiday gatherings (come to think of it, perhaps a version of the device could benefit from the addition of a bottle opener and a corkscrew) in case of troublesome packaging. If I lived in a larger household, the device might be used even more often (and might have broken by now), but for my purposes, it has been exactly right.

really useful
These are the absolute solution to every package you've ever struggled to open. Easy to store, to use... a commercial about a tv show showed a man holding a razor in a plastic pack... the character said "what is this impervious barrier?" We've all felt that way but this clever and sturdy device has all the tools you need to get through that barrier.... in one place. Thanks for a great gizmo! Now can you make typefaces larger please.....?

Every home should have one, apparently designed by women for women probably because we have to unwrap so much shopping, even broccoli comes in finger nail defying wrap.
